These guys should be really worried

For once, I'm thankful that I don't look like Brad Pitt. From the information I'm getting, Brad and his partner, Angelina Jolie, might be the most at-risk people in the world when it comes to genital herpes. And, thankfully, average-looking folks like me apparently have no risk. Of course, I'm kidding, but you wouldn't know that if you've seen the TV commercials for Valtrex, the drug that pledges to help genital herpes sufferers reduce their outbreaks and cut their risk of passing the disease to their partners. Every guy I've seen in these commercials looks as if he should be on the cover of GQ, and every woman looks like a runway model. I had no idea that good looks carried such a disease risk. So, if you happen to run into one of the "beautiful people" while running on the beach or riding a horse through a meadow, express to them your deep sympathy about the herpes gantlet they have to run, and slip the poor folks a couple of condoms.

Unfortunately, ugly and moderately attractive people get genital herpes, too. In fact, the latest stats indicate that between 20% and 25% of American adults currently have or have had the disease. There is no cure; it can only be managed. So it makes sense to see such advertising. Yes, it is a sexually transmitted disease. Yes, the only way to avoid it is to refrain from sexual contact. That's the only way to avoid pregnancy, also, and you see how far we got with that argument. So feel good about yourself ... you're not so far removed from Brangelina as you imagined.

A really scary recent study revealed that one in four sexually active teenage girls has, has had or is the carrier of an STD. Check out this AP article.
*********
"AP) CHICAGO -- At least one in four teenage girls nationwide has a sexually transmitted disease, or more than 3 million teens, according to the first study of its kind in this age group.

A virus that causes cervical cancer is by far the most common sexually transmitted infection in teen girls aged 14 to 19, while the highest overall prevalence is among black girls-- nearly half the blacks studied had at least one STD. That rate compared with 20 percent among both whites and Mexican-American teens, the study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.
For many, the numbers likely seem "overwhelming because you're talking about nearly half of the sexually experienced teens at any one time having evidence of an STD," said Dr. Margaret Blythe, an adolescent medicine specialist at Indiana University School of Medicine and head of the American Academy of Pediatrics' committee on adolescence.

The fact that Valtrex ads have been a regular in the ad rotation on national TV reminds us that STD's are everywhere and affect everyone ... including the pretty people, the young and the old. Perhaps if Valtrex ads included all kinds of people.. the point would be better made.

You spelled chlamydia correctly, but misspelled "common" twice...in two different ways.
