Snuggie as a buggie

If you like to stay toasty warm in your home during these winter months and don't mind looking a bit like a bozo, the Snuggie just might be for you. I've been seeing it advertised a lot lately on TV. The missus thinks they'd be great, but I'd be mortified if I were wearing this blanket-robe hybrid and the FedEx man came to the door. Essentially, it's a big old blanket with sleeves that you put on like a doctor donning a surgical gown. (See photo) However, it gives one the appearance of a Benedictine monk, which is fine if you're a Benedictine monk, but not so much if the FedEx man comes to the door. It also looks a bit long and unwieldy, raising my fear that I'd pull a William Holden, trip over the damn thing and crack my head off an end table. But if you're in the market (if you do a Web search for Snuggie, you can find them), they have a deal going where you not only get the Snuggie, but a free book light. BUT WAIT! If you order now, they double the order. That's right. Two Snuggies and two book lights. And you get it all for less than $30, with the shipping and handling included. Now, about the Popeil Pocket Fisherman ...

I think you'd look lovely in the red Snuggie. And it's easy to shuck if the missus makes you an offer you can't refuse.

I'd wear it to the grocery store... like a big, red, comfy hospital gown :-)

The old man on the commercial gives me the creeps.

The whole outfit looks to be a bit unwieldy, but you know, it looks to be large enough that it could accommodate two people, so if the missus does want to get a little friendly and it's really cold, you both could fit under it.

Wasn't Gandalf wearing one of these in LOTR? And didn't David Bowie have something similar in one incarnation?

You don't get it all for less than $30!! The shipping comes to $31.80 because they charge you $7.95 PER snuggie. So for their so-called deal it costs you $66.70. From what I've seen, I'm just one of many who were scammed by this company. Many are in line to cancel their orders!

I think I'll just stick with regular old blankets. Those hidden charges remind me of buying concert tickets. The tickets might be $25, but by the time you add the handling fee, site fee, convenience fee, etc., etc., it's closer to $40 or more.

Google "Snuggie complaints" and you will find that most people who ordered or attempted to order were very unhappy.....we ordered ours in November and have yet to received them. I emailed and made a phone call to cancel, and hopefully, that is the end of it. Can you spell "scam?"

Upon reviewing the myriad, multiple complaints (perhaps numbering in the thousands by now) registered by other Internet purchasers of Snuggie blankets, I realize my own gripe is merely redundant (see for yourself by Googling "customer complaints Snuggie"). Basically what happened to me is what happened (pretty much word-for-word) to the first Complaints Board complainant whose story I read, which I copied and am pasting here now: "I went to the website and purchased a snuggie. It was supposed to be buy one get one free. Then they ask if you would like to upgrade to a more plush snuggie. When you say yes you end up buying 2 getting 2 free and instead of it costing you approx. $40.00 it ends up costing you almost $95.00. I called to have them correct this only to have them tell me that it was too soon for the order to be in the system that I would have to call back in 24 to 72 hours. That the order does not hit the system that soon. I asked well how can you email me an order # that is not in the system? I was told well that's not the true order # that we use. What a bunch of crap! I'm canceling my credit card. What a bunch of scam artists." I totally agree. What I did after my own third bowel-roiling phone call to Snuggie customer service (there's an oxymorom) was to promptly call American Express to dispute the charge. In their usual competent fashion, AE said they'd take care of it. Someone, though, ought to let ABC's Good Morning America, which touted the blanket in a Saturday morning segment that they're an unwitting accomplice to a shady cyberspace operator. Well, my bowels have quieted somewhat. The best thing I've learned this morning is to always Google a product BEFORE purchasing it on the Internet in order to benefit from other people's undfortunate experiences. Snuggie blankets are not a warm and cozy product -- well, the product itself might (or might not) be, but certainly not the unpleasant experience of purchasing one. Internet buyer beware!
