A terrorist of a different color

I wonder how many people across our great land, when hearing of Wednesday's attack on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial and Museum in Washington, D.C., harbored some small, secret hope that the perpetrator of this terrorist assault was of Middle Eastern descent, the better to bolster their prejudices against people from that part of the world, in general, and Muslims, in particular. But the gunman who killed a security guard before being wounded and captured was an old white guy. James von Brunn, 88, is a World War II veteran who, despite the experience of fighting Hitler's Germany, became a Holocaust denier and deranged hater of all things Jewish and non-white. Von Brunn's actions serve as a reminder that there's really no difference between a Middle Eastern terrorist and a white, homegrown terrorist like Von Brunn, or between the Muslim convert who killed a soldier earlier this month in Arkansas and the white, homegrown terrorist who killed Dr. Tiller in Wichita. The common denominator is hate. It comes in all colors and religions.

I say this with humility...I'm pleased to say that the likelihood of the shooter being from the Middle East never entered my mind.

This crazy old fart just proves that hate can manifest itself in anyone and last forever. Very sad story.

Brant I left a great post about Sotomayor, guess you didn't like it? Well anyway...
Dr.Tiller was a killer in the mist of another killer. One kills babies and the other was a nut job and killed him. Who is the real terrorist? Trick question... neither. The Muslim convert that shot and killed an unarmed soldier in Arkansas, was he a terrorist? I don't think so. I think the only one that comes close to that label would be James Von Brunn. Then again he was almost 90 years old.. maybe he was a looney old man? You have to be very careful how you label a terrorist. If you label every killer a terrorist, you just opened the door for the Federal Govt to restrict your rights. Remember the Patriot ACT? That wasn't for the American Citizen! That was for the Terrorist! How many cases can you name that the Fed's have stated this American will be charged under the Patriot Act? Call a killer a killer, and a spade a spade! Don't over use that wide label maker that says "terrorist"

There will now be a pause in the regularly scheduled programming to bash American white males. Thank you sticking with us during this interruption. We will return to the regular programming after a few days devoted to the new target for bashing. We know that all parties will understand the need for this brief diversion.

Definition of terrorism: The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

I think these people fit the mold to be called terrorists. It's not like one crack dealer killing another crack dealer on the streets of Pittsburgh. These people were all ideologically driven. The killer in D.C. was, indeed, a loony old man. But it turns out he also was a loony younger man, so I don't think dementia was involved. As for Tiller, abortions are legal in this country, and even late-term abortions are legal under certain circumstances (not all of which I agree with). Killing an abortion doctor in cold blood, however, is clearly illegal. Finally, I did appreciate your comments on the Sotomayor item. It's just that when new blog items are added, the older ones slide off the page.

I can't help it, but everytime I think someone has censored me, I think of this...
(Brant I don't think you censored me about Sotomayor. I think you made a blog and ran out of room )

"An enemy of socialism cannot write in our newspapers-but we don't deny it, and we don't go around proclaiming hypothetical freedom of the press where it doesn't exist, the way you people do."--- Fidel Castro (Jan 1967)

Hell that can mean anything! a lot of or in there. Thats what Fedzilla wants. Broad strokes so everyone fits. under that definition you could be called a terrorist for a "thought crime" and people have been.

I think you're looking at it over-broadly, but I'll grant you that governments have stretched laws or definitions to suit their purposes (I seem to remember that happening a time or two under George W.).

tit for tat, i'm going to leave it at that. i would like to see a blog on crazy roidheaded cops. the net has opened a door to expose crazy cop's. Maybe you'll know this. How many cops are in Greene County? Staties, town clowns, sheriff? What is the population of Greene County? How many cops per person? I have tried and tried to find out this info. Greene County isn't as bad as the rest of the nation. I travel a good deal and I've always wondered about my home county.

There never has been and never will be a dearth of white crazies in America, and some of them make the Muslim variety seem sane. A friend of von Brunn's said, ""The responsible white separatist community condemns this. It makes us look bad."

"Responsible white separatist" -- a new oxymoron is born.
